Jordana Mclaughlin

Progress consists, not in the increase of truth, but in freeing it from its wrappings. The truth is obtained like gold, not by letting it grow bigger, but by washing off from it everything that isn’t gold.”
— quoted in Tolstoy's Diaries (1985)

Doctoral Level Intern:

Hi, I am Jordana (Jor-day-nah) McLaughlin. I am licensed in the state of PA, I have been a counselor for 14 years, and I moved to Clarksville Tennessee from Western Pennsylvania to get my doctorate in Counseling Psychology and I’m a current second-year doctoral student intern.

Together, we can work to find the right treatment approach for your needs. My passion is helping with complex, messy, intense, and stuck places. You are not alone - things can get better. Together, we can explore the why's and the how's of stress and trauma. We will create goals that are meaningful to you, check-in on the progress, and help you create lasting meaningful change.

Education:

  • Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling, Morgantown, West Virginia University

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Areas of Specialty

I specialize in trauma across the lifespan: 12+ years through 65. I have speciality training in women’s issues (such as chronic pain/disability, infertility, perfectionism, maternal mental health including during and after pregnancy, and trauma). I have helped others who are non-binary or identify as men in a variety of needs including my background in paternal mental health, anger management, chronic pain/ disability counseling, and serving severely wounded polytrauma veterans in educational retraining and hospice needs assessments. I also have experience with couples and can help improve communication and have each partner feel heard.

I am trained in evidence-based therapies that will help you to feel better faster because I am using techniques and treatments that are research-based to provide improved outcomes. I used CBT (anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, etc.), Cognitive Processing Therapy (gold standard treatment for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Positive Psychology (such as leveraging strengths and examining factors in difference perspectives), and Gottman Couples Therapy.

A little bit about me:

Outside of school and work you can find me baking or running trails with my family. I am married to a service-connected veteran, and we have several small children. My quirky thing is neuroscience. I love neuroanatomy and how science can explain how it affects the rest of the body and our psychology.
