EMDR Therapy
Do you constantly feel stuck? EMDR might be able to help!
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a highly researched and widely known therapeutic modality formerly used as a treatment method for trauma. Due to the high level of success obtained from the use of this model, it is now used all over the world by professional therapists for the treatment of anxiety, shame, self-doubt etc. in addition to trauma. The EMDR model is basically focused on helping you release and get rid of the constant negative thoughts and beliefs in your mind. Thus molding you into the best version of yourself in a shorter period of time.
How it Works
As a human being, when you feel overwhelmed by a certain situation or just upset, your brain becomes unable to process information in the same way it does when you are calm. This is because upsetting experiences become locked in the brain, causing you to relive the same images, emotions etc. over and over again at the slightest trigger. EMDR works by helping to teach your brain positive thinking patterns and also it controls the way you react to different situations. After a series of sessions using this model, you may be able to experience less to no symptoms and a reduction of emotional and physical stress. EMDR allows you to be in control of your inner experiences,
The advantage of EMDR over other forms of psychotherapeutic modalities is that it works faster to resolve deep-rooted problems and is also said to be twice as effective as some other standard modalities.
Here are answers to some questions you might have;
How different is EMDR from Hypnosis?
EMDR is different from hypnosis because during EMDR sessions, you are very active and alert. The sessions are focused on helping you bring to light past experiences that may still have major effects on you and allow you to resolve them. At this time you will develop a plan to handle similar situations in the future.
Is it right for me?
At Sunrise Counseling Services, we will take the time to assess your state of mind in our initial counseling sessions to determine whether or not EMDR could be beneficial. However, if you are constantly battling with PTSD, anxiety or poor self-esteem, then EMDR may be recommended.
