Anxiety Therapy
Are You Tired Of Constantly Overthinking And Second-Guessing Yourself?
Have panic or fear of the unknown taken over your daily thought process?
Are you always worried about the future or anticipating the worst-case scenario?
Do you often feel too anxious to leave your house or to spend time with friends and family?
Sometimes you might be unable to start your day because the minute you wake up, thoughts of fear, panic, and anxiety flood in. This may leave you feeling stuck, frozen, and unproductive. You find yourself unable to be present in your relationships or at work due to the intrusive thoughts that just won’t go away. You may even be considering therapy to help you with your anxiety.
Anxiety Often Leads To Extreme Busyness Or Extreme Isolation
When you’re living with anxiety, it’s normal to find yourself in “busy mode” all of the time—overloading your schedule and overworking yourself to the point of exhaustion. It’s also equally normal to isolate and end up saying no to everything, avoiding plans with friends and family and calling out of work. Social anxiety and fear of failure can also drive you to withdraw from others and cause you to want to stay in your comfort zone.
In the end, neither of these extremes is a healthy way to live. Therapy is a chance to invite more balance into your life. Here at Sunrise Counseling Services, our mission is to help you cultivate a healthier relationship with anxiety so that you feel lighter, freer, and more confident in who you are.
Isn’t Anxiety A Normal Human Emotion? When Should I Be Worried?
It is true that, as human beings, a little stress or anxiety is normal and helps us navigate through life while steering clear of dangerous bumps along the way. However, when you continuously feel anxious for no apparent reason, or this feeling impedes your work, relationships, school, and other aspects of your life, it becomes an issue worth seeking help for.
Unfortunately, anxiety has spun out of control for many people in today’s world. For example, social media has taught us all to question our worth and judge ourselves more. All day long, we are bombarded by other people’s highlight reels. We see them traveling, having fun, and getting into happy relationships, and this makes us worried that we don’t measure up or we aren’t good enough.
Avoiding Anxiety is Instinctive—But It Only Makes Anxiety Worse
The paradox of anxiety is that the more you try to run from it, the more powerful it gets. Your anxiety may tell you “Don’t go to that party, don’t apply for that job, don’t take that risk,” etc. But when you avoid opportunities for growth, anxiety just becomes even harder to overcome, and you can create an even bigger hill for yourself to climb. To safely confront the sources of your anxiety and learn coping skills for managing it more effectively, sometimes you need the help of a trained and compassionate therapist.
You Are Not Alone! Anxiety Therapy May Be Just The Perfect Start!
Oftentimes, anxiety feels so huge and overwhelming that the thought of facing it can seem impossible. That’s why it’s so important to break things down into smaller pieces and set realistic goals and expectations. At Sunrise Counseling Services, our therapists will meet you wherever you are and help you come up with baby steps and goals for challenging anxiety at a pace that’s right for you.
We have experience treating anxiety in kids, teens, adults, and people from all different backgrounds. With a set of diverse counseling abilities, our counselors take the time to understand the uniqueness of each client and use that information to create helpful plans that will benefit them during and after therapy.
What To Expect In Anxiety Counseling Sessions
Since anxiety is a disorder that often causes feelings of shame, inadequacy, and low self-esteem, it only makes sense to treat the problem at its root. We believe that you have to “name it to tame it,” which means identifying how anxiety arose and how it continues to affect your life. Working together, you and your counselor will put the missing pieces together to figure out the “why” behind your anxiety.
From there, both of you will focus on creating a treatment plan for managing your anxiety. Through a skills-based, solution-focused approach, you’ll come up with coping strategies that are tailored to suit your needs. The goal of learning these skills is to help you cultivate a healthier relationship with anxiety. Instead of running from anxiety or trying to eliminate it, you’ll learn to accept its role in your life and work on minimizing its impact.
Tailoring Your Treatment Plan
How we approach anxiety therapy varies from client to client. Our therapists often utilize mindfulness to help clients remain grounded in stressful situations. Anxiety can make you obsess over the future or ruminate about the past—mindfulness allows you to be present in the moment and able to enjoy life as it comes to you.
We also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. CBT can teach you to identify the negative thoughts fueling anxious behavior and give you a toolbox of skills for managing anxiety in day-to-day life.
If you enjoy being creative, we can bring different art materials into therapy to help you express yourself and calm your nervous system. You’re welcome to use visual art, music, or whatever form of expression works best for you—our approach is all about embracing your uniqueness and harnessing it to foster growth.
In the end, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Many people have been exactly where you are, only to experience long-lasting healing and relief through the power of therapy. We want you to experience the same thing
You May Have Some Questions And Concerns About Anxiety Therapy…
Do I have to leave my house?
Regardless of the barriers that make it hard to meet in person, we will make therapy work for you. We offer a wide range of hours and provide online counseling for people with busy schedules. What’s more, we know that going to therapy can be stressful for people with social anxiety—virtual sessions work well if that’s the case.
How long will therapy take?
Everyone is different and everyone heals at their own pace, so we encourage you to be patient with yourself. Our therapists are well-trained and will come up with a plan that’s realistic for you. Most of our clients report feeling some relief after the first few sessions, but in order to foster deeper healing, it’s essential to maintain an ongoing connection with your therapist.
What if I don’t connect with my therapist?
That’s okay! You’re in charge of your own treatment plan and you get to decide who you want to work with. The therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of treatment, so we want you to find a connection that fits your needs, goals, and personality. We have a diverse group of clinicians and can help you find one that’s a good fit for your therapy journey.
